About

Holy Resurrection Ukrainian Catholic Church

There was action started in the spring of 1963 to organize a Ukrainian school for children and to start a new parish on the mountain. In October 1963 church on mountain got the name Holy Resurrection and was assigned as the first Ukrainian Catholic Church on the mountain. The church was built by parishioners in 1964. Rev. Morris Bosey was assigned to be the first pastor of the Holy Resurrection Ukrainian Catholic Church and the first Sunday Mass on the Mountain was offered on February 2, 1964, in the chapel of St. St. Margaret Mary’s School.

The Parish Committee immediately began the work of finding a suitable location for a church site. In April 1966 the site for church was found and bought. A few months later all parishioners, building committee, Paul Sianchuk, Joe Mendiuk and Father Morris Bosey started building the church. On 29th of October 1967 bishop blessed of the Corner Stone and after the church and hall.

Holy Resurrection Church was blessed on May 12, 1968.

In November 1984 our parish was blessed by assignment of Fr. Emil Iskat to serve as our parish priest. While Fr. Iskat served in our church, our community was grown. Fr. Emil Iskat made our church more attractive. He did this by initiating with help of our parishioners a communion class, a catechism program, Bible study and a youth club and by placing small icon – stands at the entrance to the Church so that the children as they entered could venerate the icons of Christ and His Most Holy Mother. Within 4 years attendance at the liturgies increased three-fold as a chaplain to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate in Ancaster, Fr. Emil was able to encourage their greater participation in life of our parish. In July 1986 Fr. Emil Iskat was formally named pastor of Holy Resurrection. On March 14, 1988, Fr. Emil Iskat tragically passed away.

In 1988 our parish accepted Fr. Renaldo Kekis who served in Holy Resurrection Church until August 2023. While Fr. Renaldo Kekis served in our parish, he made a huge and important impact on our church so that our parish was able to grow more.

In August 2023 Holy Resurrection Ukrainian Catholic Church blessed and accepted Ver. Rev. Zenoviy Bahriy to serve in our parish.
